The main purposes for designating Piatra Craiului as National Park were the following: to maintain the biodiversity, landscape and species conservation, to promote and encourage tourist activities and public awareness and education for the nature values conservation.

Biodiversity, landscape and valuable species conservation consists of inventory and monitoring activities as well as adequate management actions for their protection.

Tourism promoting and encouraging has as a basis the creation of a suitable infrastructure which ease park visiting in environmental friendly manner and facilitate the development of specific income generating activities for the local communities.

Public awareness and education have as purpose a better understanding of the park natural values and of its conservation efforts importance that the park administration undertakes for a better environment protection.
