Mountain shelters

The first mountain shelters were built in Piatra Craiului by chamois hunters during the interwar period. There are mentioned in the first guides of the massive the Diana Lodge and the Hidden Cabin. The Diana wooden structure was destroyed several times, being rebuilt by the Mountain Rescue Team from Zarnesti. In 2003 a new shelter was installed by the Park Administration. And beside the old "Hidden" cabin from Braul Cioranga, a mountain shelter, later called the Sperantei Refuge, was built in the 80s. On August 5, 2015, Piatra Craiului National Park Administration replaced the old alpine shelter, which was in an advanced state of degradation, with a modern one, with the support of 50 people - mountain rescuers, mountain gendarmes and other volunteers.
The shelter from Ascutit Peak was built between 1945 and 1950 and was named "7 November" (Lehmann) Refuge. It burned in 1975, being immediately rebuilt from glass fibre. It was the first igloo shape refuge in Piatra Craiului. The current shelter was built in 2000 by the Park Administration with the support of the Alpine Club from Brasov.
The Grind shelter was originally installed, rudimentarily, on the site of the former Radu Negru chalet, built by the A.D.M.I.R. Association and destroyed by a snow avalanche in 1953. The actual tin shelter, also called Grind 1, was built in 1983 by the members of the Amicii Salvamont and the circle of the Tractorul factory (both from Brasov). Partially destroyed by avalanche in the spring of 2005, it was restored by the Piatra Craiului National Park Administration and the Zarnesti Public Mountain Rescue Service. In 2016, the shelter was in an advanced degradation state and required urgent repairs, being renovated by Dan Mazilu in the summer of 2017, with the support of the National Park Administration and other volunteers.
The Spirla shelter was built between 1970-1972 by Zarnesti Mountain Rescue Team, but in 1980 it burned and another wooden shelter was built for tourists. It burned again in 2001 and was rebuilt in the same year with its own forces by a scout group. Unfortunately this was consumed by flame only 6 months after. The current glass fibre shelter was installed by the Piatra Craiului National Park Administration.
The alpine shelter located at the highest altitude in Piatra Craiului, in Grind Saddle (2026 m), was built from glass fibre in 2003 by the Park Administration with the support of Zarnesti Mountain Rescue Team. Also in the same year, at the beginning of August, another shelter for tourists was installed  in Funduri Saddle. The action, organized by the Piatra Craiului National Park Administration, was supported by the tourist groups: Floare de Colt Brasov, Carpatia Bucharest and Ecology-Sport-Tourism Bucharest.
